When should a translation be sworn?
The reasons are very diverse. In general, the translations must be sworn when they appear before the administration, since it is certified that the translation is faithful to the content of the original document. The seal of the sworn translator is the one that grants the translation full validity to any public body.
The documents requested with this seal by the administrations are:
- Translation titles and academic certifications.
- Translation of certificate of criminal record.
- Translation of adoption documents.
- Translation of marriage and divorce certificates.
- Translation of medical certificates.
- Translation of birth certificates.
- Translation of residence permits.
What documents should I bring?
It is mandatory to provide the original document although, once checked by the translator, a photocopy can be provided and the original is reserved.
What scope of territorial competence does a sworn translator have?
Sworn translators are appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation with competence throughout the national territory, regardless of where they practice. They are the only ones authorized to perform these official translations.
